Good Shepherd Church Welcomes New Senior Pastor Mark Carlsson from Sweden

Family moving from Stockholm becomes part of Naperville community

PRESS RELEASE

Good Shepherd Church literally searched the world to find their next Senior Pastor. Mark Carlsson was welcomed as the church’s Senior Pastor on August 26, 2019. He succeeds Pastor Gary Olson who will be transitioning to retirement after 22 years of leading Good Shepherd.

Pastor Mark Carlsson, along with his wife Christie and two sons, relocated to Naperville to serve the 4,000-member church. Pastor Mark has 25 years of ministry experience, including most recently 8 years as Senior Pastor of Bethlehem Church in the heart of Stockholm, Sweden.

On their decision to move to Chicagoland, Mark Carlsson said, “This is where I began campus ministry, where my wife and I met, and were married, so it’s always felt like home. As we explored the Chicago area, we started zeroing in on Naperville because of its family orientation, its schools, and also proximity to extended family.” He continues, “After being richly blessed for nearly 16 years as missionaries in Sweden, we are following God’s undeniable call to a new season in ministry in the U.S.” They are filled with anticipation to further God’s Kingdom in Naperville through Good Shepherd.

David Campbell, Leader of the call team at Good Shepherd explains, “After searching far and wide domestically for a prospective senior pastor, our team began to look globally, and everything fell into place upon meeting Pastor Mark. His desire to return to Chicagoland, along with his extensive ministry experience, made him an exceptional candidate for Good Shepherd’s thriving community.”

Good Shepherd has been serving the Naperville area for 42 years. As the community has grown, so has Good Shepherd. Strong leadership has been a hallmark of the church.

Pastor Mark said, “ My passion is to know Jesus, walk in the Spirit and participate in God’s redemptive transformation of the world.” He and his family are eager to meet people not only in the congregation, but also people of the Naperville community. Traditional and Contemporary services are held each weekend on Saturday at 5:05 P.M., and Sunday at 8:00 A.M., 9:30 A.M. and 11 A.M. All are welcome at Good Shepherd.

Good Shepherd is a Christ-centered, encouraging, and joyful church focused on serving the spiritual needs of our local community. We believe God placed our ministry where it is today so we can best leverage the time, talents and financial resources of people in this area to help others in our community, across the nation and around the world.
