Council Updates – November 2022

Due to the uniqueness of Good Shepherd’s Senior Pastor search, the Senior Pastor Call Team presented a proposal to Council to hire a Pastoral Search Firm. Council approved retaining a Pastoral Search Firm to support an expanded search process. All candidates would still be vetted, screened, and interviewed by the Senior Pastor Call Team first, then reviewed by the Synod. Additionally, the Synod is in support of this approach.

We give all glory to God as Good Shepherd Preschool continues to grow! They are now at capacity at 134 students. Council approved moving forward with soliciting bids for potential construction to facilitate a Preschool expansion.

Council has directed the Communications team to add births and deaths to the weekly Prayer and Action Guide, as well as information regarding funeral details so people can attend or pay respects.

Pastor Paul, Pamela Palmer, and Tom Anderson continue to follow up with congregants who have not been seen in some time. Council is grateful for these wonderful leaders on Staff who continue to check in on our congregation and are excited to see some familiar faces returning on Sunday mornings.

The Pie Thing is back! Kim Jeske offered to organize The Pie Thing which will be held on Wednesday, November 23 following the Thanksgiving Eve service. The congregation and Council desire to bring back the fun Relationship Building opportunities, where we can. If you would like to help, please use this link to sign-up!

Tom Anderson continues to focus on hiring a Human Resources Director (HR), a Facilities Director, and an Organist.

The Safety and Security team, which is made up of Council, Staff, and Congregation volunteers met on Wednesday, November 2. The team will work to research best practices, review, and update our current procedures and training.

Lastly, Council is grateful for our Worship Teams who are already preparing for Advent and Christmas!  As we prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus, the Worship Team, Staff, and many volunteers are preparing for three Encounter Christmas events, six services on Christmas Eve, a Christmas Day service, and a New Year’s Day service.
