Every summer a passionate group from Good Shepherd caravans to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota to work on various projects to help the lives of the Lakota people. Through our partnership with the relief organization Re-Member we “skirt” trailers to improve heating and cooling, stain and sand wood, and make outhouses and bunk beds.

Our volunteers have an incredible opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the Lakota people. Through tours and presentations by Oglala Lakota people, an understanding and appreciation for life on the reservation is gained.

Good Shepherd joins committed volunteers from throughout the United States during this life-changing week of service. We sleep dorm-style in bunk beds and dine together to share stories and experiences.

Eligibility: Anyone age 12 or over is eligible. Volunteers under the age 18 need to be accompanied by an adult.

Want to support the Oglala Lakota people but aren’t able to travel with us? Here are other ways to be a part of this work…

  • Attend the annual July “Baseball for Bunk Beds” event.
  • Donate during Gifts From the Heart at Christmas time. Look for the decorated dream catchers!
  • Watch for special collection opportunities prior to our scheduled trips.

Information on upcoming events will be posted here as available.
