Patty Schiewe

Preschool Director

When our family came to Good Shepherd Church back in the spring of 2015, I had no idea that the church even had a preschool! We only knew this church would become our church ‘home’ when we consistently heard the words ‘All are welcome at his table’.

In 1988 I received my BA in Elementary Education and Early Childhood from St. Norbert College. While attending St. Norbert, I was fortunate to work in Campus Ministry as the Outreach Coordinator. This was a great work/study opportunity as it was closely linked to my summers spent at Phantom Lake YMCA Camp, where I was able to share my faith during both camping and counseling years. After college, I taught for 12 years in Wheaton, managed Wheaton Park District’s Northside Pool, and went back to school to receive my Masters in Education Administration from National Louis University.

My teaching plans were put on hold after my husband Steve and I welcomed twins into our family, and then another son just 21 months later! While I loved my job as ‘mom’, once the boys hit school age I was ready to again fill my cup. I’ve been PTA President and Vice President, a sales representative for a school supply kit company, a director of a soccer facility, a long-term substitute teacher, a remote first-grade teacher, and the primary caregiver to three people near and dear to my heart.

While struggling to find what God had in store for me next, I saw a posting in the Good Shepherd Prayer and Action Guide for a Preschool Director. God gave me a nudge and who was I to not follow his lead! I am thrilled that my church ‘home’ has provided me with a work ‘family’. My cup is truly full.
