PJ Malin

Pastor of Family Life and Assimilation

Pastor PJ Malin (pronounced mah-leen) was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii where he enjoyed surfing, hiking, volleyball, and music. After graduating from high school, PJ had the opportunity to share his faith through a recording of his original music entitled Footprints. He went to Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois to play volleyball and study aviation. God had other plans, as PJ was led to engage in mission trips and campus ministry. While at Lewis, PJ met Julie, who would become his best friend and the best partner a man could ask for in life and ministry. As their family has grown, PJ remains passionate about being a family man and leading the family ministry at Good Shepherd.

After graduating from Lewis, PJ worked for a Lutheran congregation for two years before entering the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC), where he earned his Masters of Divinity in 2008. He served for 3½ years as the pastor of Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Homer Glen, Illinois. In 2012, PJ was called to Good Shepherd to serve as Pastor of Family Life.

Pastor PJ is part of the worship and teaching teams. He provides leadership over all of Family Life, which includes children, preschool, special needs, students, young adults, small groups, and 55+. His leadership of Assimilation includes welcome, tours, and New Member orientations.

He has composed original songs for Good Shepherd, including "Beyond," "Calvary" and "Story of Our God." In addition to his role with Good Shepherd, Pastor PJ has been serving as the lead chaplain with the Naperville Police Department since 2013. This position allows PJ the opportunity to provide pastoral care and support to our police as well as our community.
