Spreading LOVE In Our Community

Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14

As a church community, we wanted to send our love, appreciation, and prayers to our frontline workers, first responders, and healthcare workers during this Pandemic. Individuals who had been working long hours, extra shifts, putting their own lives at risk during stressful times. In a response of love, we began assembling and distributing “care bags” in our community.  As of today over 250 bags have been distributed! Now that is spreading LOVE in our local community!

Each “care bag” included personal thank you notes, encouraging scripture, a prayer for safety, a gift card to have breakfast or lunch on us, and some goodies to eat on their long shifts! These went to grocery store workers, policemen, firefighters, nursing home workers, and healthcare professionals.

Each bag was created and hand delivered by someone from Good Shepherd. Families, small groups, and Thrivent teams participated in this outreach effort.

To expand our community outreach we also made “care bags” for Fusion Families.  During these stressful times, we wanted to send encouragement and love from their Good Shepherd family. Our team had great joy assembling 65 Fusion bags including a ladies small group that handwrote letters of encouragement for each one. A team of eight drivers delivered to each individual family.

With the generous partnership of Side by Side for Christ these bags included  custom coloring sheets, a heart stress ball, heart pen, goodies and a coffee gift card.  As well as personal notes, scripture and prayer. Here are a few of the responses that we received.

Thank you so much for the goodie bag that was dropped off yesterday. It was so thoughtful and much appreciated!  My boys enjoyed the treats and toys, and I very much appreciated the handwritten notes and bible verses and gift card. I have them taped up on my kitchen backsplash so I can read them daily. This has not been an easy feat, social distancing with two boys to homeschool and a baby crawling around. This was an absolute treat to receive, and it lifted my spirits.  Please let your team know that their work is much appreciated.

I don’t know who or how to thank you for the surprise goodie bag that was delivered today, but my husband and I were both brought to tears by the kindness and thoughtfulness of all involved!

Thank you so much to everyone involved.  Your gift bag and words came at the right time when I needed it.

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
