Confirmation Retreat Recap

From Collin Puckett, High School Ministry Leader

On November 11th and 12th we had about 60 students staying in the church for our 24-hour Delta retreat! As a part of confirmation, students were asked to attend the Delta retreat to explore more about how God has worked in their lives and in the lives of those around them. Throughout the retreat, we explored Psalm 139:12 and how God sees us in our darkness as if it were light that we serve a God who knows us and loves us. We had four senior high students who shared their stories of how God has worked in their lives. They were great examples of being faith sharers!

During our midnight worship, we asked the students, “what are you carrying? What things in your life are weighing you down? What things might get in the way or obscure your relationship with Christ?” These things included friend drama, tension at home, worries about the future, grief, mental health, doubts about faith, and many more. We gave each student colored stickers to put onto the paper to represent each of these things and to be able to put them onto our big black poster labeled “Light in the Darkness”. Our paper of darkness quickly filled from a dark piece of butcher paper to a paper filled with color. Each of our students was able to realize that not only does God shine into our darkness, but also that none of us are alone.

The student leaders did such a great job in the 10 weeks of planning this event, and we are very proud of the work they have done. We serve a God who has worked in all of our lives, and it was so great to be able to hear of the eternal impact he has had in the lives of our students!
