Shepherd’s Heart 4/26/24

Ministry is always done in community, so this week Pastor Tara Beth invites you to hear from our Executive Minister of Missions, Jeannine Allen!

This week I was reminded that we are Kingdom people! As part of our Tuesday Morning Women’s Study “Experiencing God” we reflected on whether we see our family, neighborhood, community, and our world through a Kingdom perspective. That was kind of humbling as I asked myself, do I? A Kingdom perspective moves our eyes off of ourselves to the greater work around us that God is doing. It’s an awareness of where and how God is moving and asking us to join him in his work.

At Good Shepherd, I don’t have to look far to see where and how God is moving.  We partner with incredible organizations right here in our community and around the globe, that work to end hunger, homelessness, and poverty, provide access to education, and share Christ’s life-transforming love. We come together through tangible acts of love, service, and generosity to impact the world’s most vulnerable and bring kingdom moments here on earth.

Where is God stirring you to join the work He is doing? Each week we share opportunities on our outreach page.  Here are a couple of those ways that I want to highlight.

Hesed House| May 8 & 9 Hesed House is the second-largest emergency shelter in the state of Illinois. Join our team as we prep, cook, and joyfully serve over 250 guests for breakfast and dinner.  All you need is a smile and a pair of willing hands!

Rebuilding Together Aurora| May 10 & 11
Join us for Aurora’s National Rebuilding Day on Friday, May 10 & Saturday, May 11 from 8-4 pm.  Volunteer teams from across Chicagoland will join forces to tackle critical home repairs for qualified homeowners in Aurora’s near-west working-class neighborhoods.  Good Shepherd has been partnering with RTA for the past 30 years to address dangerous housing conditions for our neighbors in need.   Projects will include yard work, painting, and light construction.  All skill levels are welcome!

Cherish Watoto Kenya | May 12-14 |Three Ways to Engage!
One of the most amazing ways God is working through Good Shepherd is at Cherish Watoto, an orphanage and school in Nairobi Kenya. Bernard Wandera, the School Director, is coming to the United States in May. Hear directly from him about the incredible ways we are partnering together to take children from poverty to possibilities. This is a unique opportunity and our teams are providing three ways you can engage:

May 12 – Meet & Greet Opportunity with Bernard in the Café after all Sunday Services!
May 13 – Fun with Purpose! Trivia Night at the Hotel Indigo to benefit CWK High School Scholarships in honor of Ken Holland. This is being hosted by 4:13 and the Naperville Rotary Club. Link to ticket purchase here.
May 14 – Two incredible opportunities to hear from Bernard directly in 90-minute sessions that will include food and fellowship. All are welcome! More details to follow.

Friends, this is impactful, joy-filled work that we get to do together!  You can find complete details and sign-up links on our Outreach Page here.
