Responding to Those in Need

You may have noticed the past several Sundays that there have been individuals with signs soliciting for money at our parking lot exit. We want to assure you that Good Shepherd works in tandem with a network of local churches and mission partners to address immediate needs and a pathway forward for individuals in need. Our collective goal is to provide connections to assistance and long-term solutions. Also, please know that Good Shepherd has been advised by the Naperville Police Department to NOT give money in these circumstances for many important reasons. Many of these individuals are “professionals” who have traveled to Naperville with the intent to solicit because of our community’s generous reputation. If they are successful at a location, they spread the word to others. The majority of these individuals do not fall into the category of migrants, homeless, or asylum-seeking families.

You can be confident that your generous giving allows Good Shepherd to respond in an impactful way to our local mission partners that provide incredible community resources for the displaced, hungry, and homeless. Look for a separate communication regarding our response to the Migrant/Displaced Crisis through partnerships with other area churches and organizations and how you can join us in our efforts.
